Projects VS – Vereinigte Spezialmöbelfabriken
Tauberbischofsheim, Germany
The client wanted a new, central building which could unite the various offices and support facilities scattered throughout the sprawling factory site. Besides providing workplaces, conference and meeting rooms and a new restaurant for both management and employees, the building provides for display and exhibition areas for the presentation of the various furniture ranges to potential customers in a pleasant, informal environment.
A building was required, which would in itself promote the corporate identity of VS, a market leader in the field of developing and manufacturing furniture for schools and commercial buildings, and which would help stabilise the existing complex of diverse factory buildings without appearing either too different or superior.
In recognizing that it is the task of the “new” to reveal contemporary possibilities we chose a simple building form which self-confidently addresses its neighbours and takes full advantage of the fall across the site to provide an appropriate gateway to the factory which is not subordinate to its fragmented pattern.
