We are excited to announce that we have been awarded 1st prize for the new indoor swimming hall in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The design is characterized by large, overlapping roofs slabs, seemingly floating above the swimming hall which connects fluidly with the surrounding park. The building utilizes a timber structure, and together with recycled concrete, implements various sustainable energy concepts as the new building is committed to the climate policy goals of the state capitol.
Mayor Dirk Thürnau, himself a member of the selection jury, and responsible for Stuttgart's swimming pools, is delighted with the winning design: "The exciting architecture by Behnisch Architekten will create far more than a replacement building for the old indoor swimming pool, which can no longer be renovated. A place with charisma for sports and leisure is being created here in Zuffenhausen."
