Grand Opening of Sportpark Ost – A Landmark for Sport and Sustainability in Regensburg
28 July, 2025
On July 28, 2025, the new Sportpark Ost officially opened on the former Prinz-Leopold Kaserne site in Regensburg. The project includes a state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool and the city’s first athletics training hall, designed for school sports, clubs, and the general public. With around 20,000 m² of floor space, the facility sets new standards for sustainable construction, featuring recycled concrete, timber, solar thermal energy, and rainwater harvesting. Delivered on time and on budget, the Sportpark marks a major step forward for Regensburg’s sports infrastructure and climate goals. During the opening weekend, visitors were welcomed with tours and family activities, highlighting the building’s transparent design and energy concept. The facility is now open and ready to serve as a new hub for sports and community life in the city’s east.
Special thanks to our partner Stephan Leissle and Gerhard Neubauer, who guided guests through the new facility during the opening ceremony.
Thank you to all project partners involved, including Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer and Manfred Koller (das Stadtwerk.Regensburg), as well as Peter Lautenschlager the City of Regensburg, Bernhard C.
