On the site of the former Lyautey Military hospital in Strasbourg-Neuhof, the design for a secondary school creates unique, identity forming spaces for learning.
The building, composed of three interconnected two- to four-storey wings, orientates the large green terraces toward the South, protecting the existing trees in the inner courtyard. The airy central atrium connects all levels and provides areas for various social interactions and informal learning.
The striking hip-roof design and generous courtyard facing glass surfaces and create a unique design language helping orient the connecting paths to the central green oasis. Natural materials such as wood and lush planting give the building its warm, pleasant character. The use of recycled materials and by using the existing hospital foundations help save resources and reduce CO2 emissions.
