New bike parking station at Harvard University

02 July, 2020

The new Science and Engineering Complex for Harvard University in Boston will soon be completed. Situated at the southwest entrance to the 500,000-square-foot structure, Behnisch Architekten has developed a new bike parking station which will shelter nearly 100 bicycles. The new station explores the strength and lightness of wood construction. Using a folded plate structural system, 36 cross-laminated timber (CLT) plates vault between steel columns and interlock with CNC-mitered joints stitched together with mechanical fasteners.

Fabricated in Gossau, Switzerland by Blumer-Lehmann. Engineered by Jan Knippers Ingenieure and Fast + Epp.
