New Indoor Swimming Pool - Sportpark Friedrichshafen

Friedrichshafen, DE

The new indoor swimming complex in Friedrichshafen forms a distinctive addition to the Sportpark, combining sports, leisure, and wellness functions within a cohesive architectural concept. Together with an integrated parking structure, it creates a new urban landmark and strengthens the identity of the surrounding area.

Site Plan

Replacing the outdated existing facility, the new indoor pool is designed as a modern sports and leisure destination for residents, schools, and clubs. Rather than focusing on spectacular attractions, the concept emphasizes a high-quality, versatile environment with multiple pools, family areas, diving facilities, and an extensive sauna landscape. Outdoor relaxation areas, including a sauna garden and thermal pools, enhance the overall experience. The heterogeneous surrounding defined by the ZF Arena, commercial buildings, and infrastructure require a clear and confident architectural response. The building is positioned to form an attractive forecourt shared with the arena, establishing a strong public entrance while keeping the area largely free of traffic. Entrances to both the pool and the parking garage are carefully placed to ensure accessibility and functional clarity.

Level 0

The design follows a coherent, compact approach with large, transparent façades instead of fragmented volumes. Internally, the building is organized around a calm, protected courtyard that acts as the central spatial and atmospheric focus. Terraces and the elevated sauna garden extend this interior landscape, creating a layered sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces.
