Haus Feuerbacher

Stuttgart, Germany

Stuttgart’s city centre is located in a depression surrounded by forested hills and vineyards. It is, without doubt, this unique topography which sets off this rather quiet town in south-west Germany from other German cities.

Haus Feuerbacher, a residential building for a private client, is located on a ca. 1,000 m² sloping site with old vineyard walls on the “Bopser”, a residential area with free-standing, often magnificent houses and villas. The steep slope, the fantastic view over the city of Stuttgart, and the green, rather free landscape are major characteristics of this site.

In our opinion a house should emerge, which, on the one hand, adapts itself to the given situation, while, on the other, exploiting it in a self-confident manner, and, beyond this, even creating a dramatic impact. It should also be ensured that the building volume does not look too compact, as is often the case in densely built cities. We therefore decided to break it down into small-scale units. This way a building can be created where each individual segment can be shaped individually and arranged in an optimum manner both internally and externally.
