Thermal Baths and Spa

Bad Aibling, DE

The new thermal spa in Bad Aibling is conceived as a landscape of diverse bathing and relaxation spaces rather than a single hall, combining intimate interior atmospheres with strong connections to the surrounding nature. The design integrates the site’s scenic qualities along the Triftbach with views of the nearby mountains to create a unique spatial and sensory experience.

Level 0

The design follows a clear north–south organization, with the thermal bath to the south and the outdoor pool to the north, connected by integrated changing areas. A sequence of bathing and relaxation spaces unfolds beneath a large glass roof, creating a continuous climatic envelope with open views to the surrounding landscape.

Section Entrance

Bathing functions are arranged in a combination of dome-covered and open spaces, generating varied spatial atmospheres and defining the architectural identity. The entrance links directly to the existing sauna and leads into a carefully structured bathing landscape with pools, relaxation zones, and a dedicated children’s area. Interior and exterior spaces are closely interwoven, offering places for rest, movement, and play, including natural water areas and elevated zones with panoramic views.

Section Pool

Vegetation enhances the experience and strengthens the connection between architecture and landscape. Structurally, the domes are conceived as reinforced concrete shells, complemented by a lightweight glass roof, while the energy concept relies on passive strategies, solar energy, and heat recovery to ensure efficient and sustainable operation.
